Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on the part of Montreal known as the West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never heard of it often think it is an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. She had a dream to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate led to her growing beyond her dance partners. The article she wrote about her experience revealed written by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting and in the instance of Brugel,, it was a suggestion from her high school teacher in drama. Her teacher suggested she audition as Anne in their annual school production. She was chosen to play the main part in Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the last 20 years, her work has been seen on the small and large screen. Her work gained most recognition when she landed her character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
